Hawaiian Weddings

While Hawaii is considered a top wedding destination, it is also popular to hold a Hawaiian wedding themed on the mainland. In Hawaii, many weddings incorporate leis, which are wreaths or necklaces of fresh tropical flowers. The bride wears a flowing white dress with a flower in her hair.

As the bride and groom stand together for their wedding vows, a circle of flowers surrounds them. This can make for beautiful and memorable wedding photographs, and is a great way to incorporate Hawaiian orchids and other tropical flowers in your wedding ceremony.

Not all Hawaiian wedding customs involve tropical flowers. During the sand ceremony, the bride and groom pour colored sands into a bottle. Before the ceremony begins, traditional Hawaiian weddings include blowing the conch shell. It can be blown to announce the beginning of the wedding ceremony or the bride’s entrance.

Traditional Hawaiian music, including steel drums, ukulele, and even hula dancers, can be incorporated into any wedding ceremony or reception. For a modern twist, use the Hawaiian Wedding Song, popularized by Elvis Presley in the movie and album “Blue Hawaii.” Of course, no Hawaiian wedding would be complete without a feast.

A Traditional Hawaiian Wedding

A Traditional Hawaiian Weddings offers you the “kokua” (help) you need to plan a beach wedding in Maui. Having planned my brothers’ wedding in Maui this February, I learned all the inside information for having a great wedding on the beach in West Maui for under $500.00.

Reverend Pia Alui had not only an impeccable reputation, but had been friends with our closes friend for 30 years, and married our neighbors from across the street. Rev. Alui also played guitar and sang at the Hula grill for many years. Bobby, the head chef at the Hula Grill, who served the wedding dinner, also knew the Reverend for many years.

The flowers came out beautiful. The haku lei only cost $50.00. A local artist and photographer on the island is available to put your pictures on a disc, or make the Hawaiian Wedding album of your dreams.
